Details...

...and pictures, as promised. She weighs 8lbs. 11oz. and is 20 inches long.

This was a shock. My babies have never had this much hair and certainly not so black. I hope she keeps it...I think it's beautiful.

I went to bed Tuesday night with the normal pains I've been having for the last 3 weeks and woke up in labor around 1am. I timed contractions for 1/2 hour, but when they quickly got to be 5-7 minutes apart and began to really hurt...I decided it was time to wake Caleb.

It didn't take Caleb long to figure out he needed to start filling the birth pool...immediately! The contractions progress very quickly. Caleb called the midwives. The time frame is all a bit hazy for me. I thought the midwives arrived about an hour before the baby. Caleb informed me they actually showed up 13 minutes before Elisa. It felt like an eternity to me. Pushing lasted maybe 5 minutes. She was born at 4:18am.

We had the delightful experience of introducing our boys to their little sister around 6am when they started stirring from their beds. I love this part of a home birth. I know it doesn't always work out, but it has for us 3 times. The awe on their faces is just wonderful.

I am feeling quite well, considering. It will take a while before my hips are working properly again. This pregnancy really did a number on me. I certainly am enjoying nursing, cuddling and snuggling with my baby daughter though. I can hardly believe we actually have a girl. I am so glad God blessed our family with her.

Beautiful!

I remember how awesome it was to wake up in those early days and realize WOW I had a daughter! Actually, sometimes I still do. She will be loved and protected by those boys. I can't wait to see more pics and see how it all unfolds with them.
